NOTES FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING TO NC STATE

Minimum Course Requirements

To be admitted to any school in the UNC system (including NC State) a student must meet the minimum course requirements in High School OR in College (for a transfer student). You cannot meet some in High School and some in College. The MCRs are given below. If you did not meet all of them in High School, then you MUST meet all of them (including the foreign language requirement) in college before you transfer. If you are not sure if you have met them, talk to admissions at your school.

·         Six course units in language, including

four units in English emphasizing grammar, composition, and literature, and

two units of a language other than English.

·         Four course units of mathematics**, in any of the following combinations:

algebra I and II, geometry, and one unit beyond algebra II,

algebra I and II, and two units beyond algebra II, or

integrated math I, II, and III, and one unit beyond integrated math III.

It is recommended that prospective students take a mathematics course unit in the twelfth grade.

at least one unit in physical science (for example, physical science, chemistry, physics), and

Fall/Summer 2009 Transfer

·       If you are planning on transferring to NC State in the fall or summer, you should fill out the on-line application during your Christmas break (Dec 2008). Also E-Mail Susan Price (sprice@lenoircc.edu) to let us know you are planning on transferring.  The on-line application can be found here (http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/uga/transfer.htm ).

o      The sooner you get your application in the sooner a decision can be made on you.

o      Do not wait until the deadline!

o      Check the transfer requirements above.

§       If you do not meet all of these, there is no need to apply. The only exception is GPA. If your GPA is lower than 3.0, you may be considered, but there is no guarantee.

§       All requirements must be met by the end of first term summer for fall transfer.

o      Remember, you will need official transcripts from your high school and all other colleges you have attended, so start collecting them.

o      Once you apply, keep checking your status on-line.

o      A Few Notes For Your Application

§       If you took the DE classes, make sure you list NC State as another college you attended – you do not need to request transcripts from NC State.

§       If you check yes to any of the background questions, make sure you supply a very complete explanation. Also, count on your application being delayed. If in doubt, mark yes. You do not want to have something show up on a background check that you do not mark here.

§       Make sure you note the courses you will be taking before you transfer. These are the courses that will not be on your transcript. For example, if you fill out the application during Christmas break, your transcript will have your fall classes on it. So, you need to list the classes you will take during the spring and first term summer.

·       After You Apply

o      You can check your stats on-line

o      You will receive a letter once you have been accepted

o      Return your acceptance form letter with your payment

o      Call 919-515-3545 and schedule an advising appointment with one of the transfer advisors

·       International Transfer Students
