     MAE 586 Project Work in Mechanical Engineering
 

Individual investigation of a problem stemming from a mutual student-faculty interest. Emphasis on providing a situation for exploiting student curiosity. 3 credit hours. This course is required for all students in the distance MSME or MSAE degree programs.

 
     

Prerequisite
 

Must have consent of Dr. Robert T. Nagel, Director of Graduate Programs, before registering.

 

Course Requirements  
  • Students must select a faculty member from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering who will serve as the project advisor and submit the name of the project advisor to Dr. Nagel before registering for the course. If the student needs assistance in identifying a project advisor, he/she should contact Dr. Nagel.
  • Preparation of a one-page summary of the project and a schedule of when each task is to be completed. Send summary to project advisor and Dr. Nagel during first week of class.
  • Send progress reports to advisors.
  • Complete and submit final report before the week of finals.

Note: Most students select a project that will include some type of analysis or experiment (if facilities are available at the student’s workplace). Some students also choose to do some type of extension study related to a topic of interest from a graduate course they have taken in the Engineering Online program.
