Adding/Dropping Classes or Changing Credit to Audit

Students who are requesting a change in their class schedule must complete the Class Schedule Revision Form. Use this form only if you are requesting a change in your course schedule to drop one class, to add a class or to change from credit to audit. The form should be completed and fax it to Engineering Online before the deadline for the last day to drop a course. Courses may be added during the first week of the semester or during the second week with permission of the instructor and the Director of the Engineering Online program. All courses may be dropped without regard to course load during the first two weeks of the semester. The deadline for dropping courses will be posted on the Engineering Online website under the “Calendar” link. Courses at the 500-and 600-level may be dropped up to one week after the mid-semester according to the posted schedule. Courses at the 100-400-level may be dropped during the first six weeks of a semester and during the first eleven days of a summer session. Thereafter, no drops shall be allowed for undergraduate or graduate students except for documented medical reasons, unforeseen grounds of personal or family hardship as provided for in University policies. Students will NOT be allowed to drop during the last two weeks of a semester. Students dropping all courses must follow the procedures for withdrawal.

Withdrawals

Students who wish to drop all the courses (one or more) for which they are registered must withdraw from the University for the remainder of the semester or summer session in which they are enrolled. Students who have registered must be officially withdrawn, unless they have notified the University prior to the beginning of the first day of classes that they wish to have their registration cancelled. Failure to pay tuition for the class does not except someone from their financial obligation to the University nor does it officially withdrawn them from the class. To officially withdraw from the University, you must complete the Withdrawal Application Form.

Note: Degree seeking students who withdraw may be in violation of the University’s continuous enrollment policy for graduate students and can jeopardize their graduate school status unless they request an official leave of absence. Contact the Director of Graduate Program for your department to request a leave of absence if you are not able to participate in the current semester. For individuals admitted to the Master of Engineering program, contact Robyn Fillinger at (919) 515-1818.

Dropping Courses After Grades Have Been Processed: Courses may not be dropped after the final grades have been submitted by the instructor and processed by the University. Any action regarding a grade change that has been recorded, including a change to W-Withdraw, requires submission of a “Grade Change Report Form” by the instructor of the course with the approval by the instructor’s department head and, for changes other than from LA or IN, by the dean or associate dean of the college in which the course is taught.
