How Does the EOL Program Work? |
- On campus classes meet in special teaching studios where the lectures are captured and digitized for placement on the course web site. The online lectures are delivered asynchronously for you to view during the day or evening at your work or home location. However, you must keep up with the semester on campus schedule in terms of assignments and exams.
- Each student is assigned a Unity account shortly after registration, which allows access to the University’s databases, library services, and e-mail. All Engineering Online students must have access to a computer, an activated e-mail account, and a high speed internet service provider.
- All NC State students are given an e-mail address and account that can be accessed by going to http://webmail.ncsu.edu. Many professors and teaching assistants will send email messages and communicate via a list-serve using NC State email accounts. Your NC State email address will be your Unity ID @ncsu.edu. For example, Mary J. Crews email address would be mjcrews@ncsu.edu. If you have a personal or business email account, you may prefer to forward your Unity email to that address. For more information about email forwarding, see http://oit.ncsu.edu/email/email-forwarding
- Course notes, handouts and homework assignments/solutions are posted online or delivered via email to your NC State email account.
- All exams are proctored. EOL will work with you to find a testing center of a person who can be approved to serve as your proctor in your company or in the community in which you work or reside.
- Homework assignments are submitted via electronic submissions process, faxed into the EOL office, or sent as an email attachment to our student services coordinator for distribution to the faculty. Graded assignments are returned to your NC State email address in a PDF format.
- Because distance education courses are the full equivalent of on-campus courses, students are expected to meet the same standards of academic achievement and are governed by the same policies and procedures that apply to on-campus instruction.
- The success of your distance education course is closely tied to the quality of communication between you and the instructor. You are encouraged to communicate directly with your instructor frequently.

How to Get Started |
- Visit the EOL demo page at http://mediasite.eos.ncsu.edu/Mediasite/Catalog/pages/catalog.aspx?catalogId=9f7e1629-1e58-4791-a028-8ce1399cf53b and see if you have a high speed Internet access to view the demos of selected course lectures.
- As a student registered in an Engineering Online course at North Carolina State University, you will need to identify a person who will serve as the proctor for your quizzes and/or exams. This person must be someone who can fulfill the requirements of a proctor objectively. The proctor cannot be another student in the program, a friend/colleague, family member, or someone whom reports directly to you. A librarian, member of the HR/Training staff within your company, former professors, or a member of a learning or testing center (i.e. Sylvan Learning Centers or college testing centers) would qualify to serve in this position. Return to the EOL registration site and complete the Proctor Identification Form.
- Order your textbook from the NC State Bookstore or your favorite online book vendor. The website for ordering a textbook online from the NC State bookstore is ihttp://www.fis.ncsu.edu/ncsubookstores/online.html.
- Contact the EOL department at 919.515.5440 or toll free at 877.254.0058 if you have further questions. You may also contact the Director, Dr. Linda Krute, at Linda_Krute@ncsu.edu.
