MAE 495-603 Graduate Preparation: Solid Mechanics and Vibrations

Graduate Preparation: Solid Mechanics and Vibrations is a “bridge” course that was developed for students entering the graduate program in aerospace or mechanical engineering who lack background in engineering structures and vibrations. 3 credit hours.

• Prerequisite

Calculus 1 and 2, 1st semester College Physics

• Course Objectives

Graduate Preparation: Solid Mechanics & Vibrations is a “bridge” course that was developed for students entering the graduate program in aerospace or mechanical engineering who lack background in engineering structures and vibrations.

This is a credit-only course, and therefore a student's grade will be reported as S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory). It will not typically satisfy the requirements of a graduate degree program unless specific permission is granted from the Director of Graduate Programs for the student's degree program.

The course is taught in an asynchronous mode, meaning that on-line lectures are viewed at your own pace.

• Course Requirements

A homework set and solutions to homework assignments are provided but they are not handed in and no credit is given for solving them. However, they do cover the material and, when completed, sufficiently prepare you for the exams. The grade in the course is determined by two exams; the first is a mid-term that tests your comprehension of engineering structures (50%) and the second is a final that tests your comprehension of engineering vibrations (50%).
