Professional Development

Being an engineer is an enormous responsibility. Engineers construct buildings, design national infrastructures, build weaponry, develop life-saving medical equipment, and are responsible for the millions of technological innovations we encounter throughout our lives. Consciously or unconsciously, an average person in the developed world entrusts his or her life and well-being to the skills of a Professional Engineer many times each day.

A career in any engineering-related field is an ongoing investment governed by self-guided learning. The engineering fundamentals you learn as an engineering undergraduate student or on the jobsite will always be with you, but the technology and resources you use will change continuously. Please explore our course offerings, and learn how Engineering Online can help you hone your existing skills, learn new competencies, and expand your career options!

Online Fundamentals of Engineering Exam Review Course

This self-paced course is designed to help seniors and recent graduates (within the last 18 months) in engineering pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. Students will learn how to use the on-line Reference Handbook to solve typical FE exam problems. The course provides roughly 230 practice problems and more than 20 hours of videos showing professors solving these problems. Access to other on-line resources and strategies for passing the exam are also provided. This course is appropriate for all FE exams except Industrial Engineering.

Online Professional Engineering Exam Review Course

An Online Civil Engineering PE Exam Review Course has been developed through a collaboration between Engineering Online, the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at NC State, and the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE).

This series has been constructed as a series of 22 lectures on pertinent topics for the PE Exam. Course instructors include:  Dr. Jim Nau (Structural Engineering) and Dr. Mike Leming (Construction Engineering) from the CE Department; Dr. Phil Lambe (Geotechnical Engineering), Mr. Russell Briggs (Water Resources and Environmental), and former ITRE Associate Director Mr. Robert Foyle (Transportation Engineering).  Recent PE review classes offered by ITRE have resulted in an 84% pass rate for first time test takers (compared to the national pass rate of 65%).
