MAE 562 Physical Gas Dynamics
 

An introduction to high speed and Hypersonic flows. Emphasis is placed on reacting flows and flows involving thermal nonequilibrium and radiation. 3 credit hours.

• Course Objectives
 

The course is an introduction to high speed and Hypersonic flows. Emphasis is placed on reacting flows and flows involving thermal nonequilibrium and radiation.


• Course Requirements
 

HOMEWORK: 20%

EXAMINATIONS: Two class exams (25% each) and a final exam (30%)

PROJECTS: The projects are included in the homework and involve simple coding.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: FORTRAN or some other language.


• Textbook
 

The course will be based on two texts:

  1. Introduction to Physical Gas Dynamics by W. G. Vincenti and C. H. Kruger, Jr., Krieger Publishing, ISBN 0-88275-309-6. (We will cover Chapters 1 - 11)
  2. Molecular Gas Dynamics by G.A. Bird

The material will be supplemented by the instructor's notes.
