CE 527 Structural Dynamics
3 Credit Hours
Analysis of single and multi-degree-of-freedom structures subjected to various types of excitations and initial conditions. Computational aspects of dynamic analysis. Introduction to approximate methods of analysis.
Prerequisite
A course in the matrix analysis of structures (CE 325) or equivalent or consent of instructor.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- formulate equations of motion for single and multiple-degree of freedom structures subjected to various dynamic loads,
- solve these equations using analytical and computational methods,
- model continuous structural systems using the Finite Element Method, and
- use and evaluate commercial dynamic analysis software..
Course Requirements
HOMEWORK: Approximately twelve.
EXAMINATIONS: Two plus one final exam.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: We will use MATLAB, but students will only modify existing programs. The student version of MATLAB is acceptable. Students will also use SAP2000, a student version of which can downloaded from http://www.engr.csufresno.edu/~aelzeiny/instruct.html
PROJECTS: None
Textbook
Strongly Recommended but Not Required: Humar, Jagmohan L., Dynamics of Structures, A.A. Balkema Publishers, Either Second (2002) or Third (2012) Edition. Paperback version is significantly less expensive.
