ECE 592 606 Advanced NextG Network Design

3 Credit Hours

This seminar course focuses on advanced technology, modeling, simulation and analysis of networks. The course first presents the key aspects and concepts of the networks which are already consolidated. These technical aspects are the background and then used to motivated many mechanisms in the new generation networks. The course will also be hands on with concepts demonstrated through use/modification of the simulation tool, e.g., to demonstrate and investigate network behavior of a number of different network topologies and under a variety of conditions.

Course Objectives

The class has a two-pronged focus: 1) learning advanced technology, modeling, analysis and simulation methodologies for networking, and evolved (or evolving) mechanisms in new
generation networks; 2) learning the capabilities and use of network simulation tools, and then using these tools to demonstrate and investigate network behavior.

Teaching Style

Classes will involve both lecture style presentations and discussions of some readings/papers. The beginning will be mostly lecture style but this will gradually give way to more discussions as the semester progresses.

Course Topics

This course focuses on advanced technology, modeling, analysis and simulation of networks. Topics include but are not limited to:
✓ Fundamentals of Networking
✓ Network Modeling
✓ Network Simulation and Analysis
✓ Network Protocols and Algorithms
✓ Wi-Fi technology
✓ 5G/beyond and Millimeter-Wave Networking
✓ Machine Learning for Networks
✓ Other Advanced Topics (if time permits)

Grading

Grade will be based on 3-4 HW assignments, and a final mini-project (in groups, with any topic in advanced technology, modeling, analysis and simulation of networks).
