MSE 556 Composite Materials
3 Credit Hours
Basic principles underlying properties of composite materials as related to properties of individual constituents and their interactions. Emphasis on design of composite systems to yield desired combinations of properties.
Prerequisite
A course in mechanical properties of materials (MSE 450) or equivalent or consent of instructor.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge on processing techniques of composites.
- Demonstrate knowledge on the methods of averaging of properties in composites.
- Demonstrate knowledge on improvement of properties brought in the composites compared to the matrix materials.
Course Requirements
Homework assignments: Assignments with solutions are provided on course website. Help is provided by the instructor.
Examinations:
Class Room Tests ( 2 out of 3 ): 70%
Final Examination: 30%
Software Requirements: Not required but will help in solving problems with matrix manipulations.
